Firstly, I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge this wonderful breed. It was an absolute pleasure and a truly interesting experience. I would also like to thank my steward, who kept the ring running like clockwork and made my day very enjoyable.
I’ve adored this breed from the very start. My daughter also developed a deep passion for them, which brought me even closer to the breed. When I began my showing journey, if my daughter had her was years ago, we would have owned one from the beautiful Stormchaser Kennel. Attending my first breed seminar, thanks to close friends who introduced us, further deepened my interest in the breed.
Thank you to all the exhibitors. It was a pleasure to judge such lovely entries, which made for some difficult decisions on the day. I also appreciated the good sportsmanship and the warm, welcoming atmosphere ringside, which made my appointment all the more enjoyable.
Pleased to see the dog judge agreed for my best bitch to go a very deserving BIS; also pleased to hear that the principal winner’s was related being littermates, along with the two puppies also being littermates. The temperament overall was good; all those placed had okay mouths, showing what the breed asks for, along with the two males I judged showing two descending testicles.
Veteran Bitch (4/1)
1st, Bailey’s, CH SKJAEGAADENS RIDING THE CRIBBAR JW (IMP NOR) 8 Yrs, can certainly tell which lovely kennel she came from as this kennel certainly produces a consistent super breed type that I’ve always admired. A super strong outline still showing strength for her age, a bitch I’ve loved since a puppy and so honoured to of got my hands on her on the day with it being her last show before going off to enjoy retirement. She was so beautiful to go over as everything is in the right place, large strong and muscular yet still showing elegance with bone and substance. Being confident and calm just slowing down with age as expected. Lovely kind expression with a beautiful dark eye that draws you in, fully furnished fleshy round ears set high that she used well, muzzle of good length to skull, strong jaw showing a little grey. Neck of moderate length leading into a lovely front construction with fore and after angles being balanced, beautiful straight well boned forelegs, good feet still for age, chest broad and deep, correct 9-10 ratios with a strong level topline, broad rump, long slanting upper thigh. parallel hocks and well muscled throughout. Won this class on breed type and she just flowed round holding her shape with reach and drive she made me smile the whole time. RBB & BVIS, sadly by rbis she had just had enough – enjoy your retirement beautiful girl.
2nd, Cole, CH AVERKATE KASSANDRA WITH SIMDEN ((IMP RUS), 7 Yrs, another deserving champion just not quite the breed type, presence, bone or substance of the class winner. Although moved round with purpose and handled to perfection, a confident good sized elegant bitch with a lovely outgoing character. Head is elongated with a great mask and a lovely dark eye giving a nice expression, balanced muzzle to skull, slight arch to good length of neck, leading into a nicely laid back shoulder with good return of upper arm. Parallel forelegs, back is firm with good tuck up, moderately slops off at the croup, hindquarters are strong would just prefer more bend to her stifle. Hocks ok, overall in good condition, she flowed round the ring as one with her charge holding her shape.
Baby Puppy Bitch (0)
Minor Puppy Bitch (4/1)
1st, Charwin & Davies, JARNO BCOZ LIONS ROAR FOR DEBBOLLLINBY, 7 Mths, easy class winner for me on breed type with being strong yet still feminine of good bone and correct ratio’s in good coat and furnishings. Although at times standing a little bum high as expected for age, a very pretty head with a calm expression, dark mask, large ears hanging close, beautiful dark eyes, showing good strength to her muzzle with dark pigmentation, balanced forequarters shoulder nicely laid back with good return of upper arm, elbows close fitting, good feet, ribs well sprung, would just prefer a little more bend of stifle, well-furnished tail reaching past hocks, best mover of the class, BPB & RBPIS, pipped to top honours by her lovely brother that just had the edge on the day.
2nd, Farmer, LEONMOOR DUKE OF GLOUCESTER. 6 Mths, this youngster has a very lively playful character so made her handler work very hard, yet she kept calm being patient working hard to get the very best out of her. Keep working hard building a bond as it’s paying off well and will only improve with more experience well done. Preferred her size and 9 to 10 ratio’s to third, just enough bone for size. Elongated head is in proportion to body being feminine with an alert kind expression, dark eye, fair length to muzzle. Slightly arched neck leading in to clean withers and chest is in the developing stages. Straight forelegs, tight feet with arched toes just needs shorter nails. Elbows sitting close, slight tuck up, good bend of stifle, moved well when settled.
Puppy Bitch (1/0)
1st, Farmer, LEONMOOR DUKE OF GLOUCESTER. 6 Mths, Second in minor puppy.
Junior Bitch (1/0)
1st, Simpson, DEBBOLLLINBY CRAFTY IDEAS FOR SIMBERGER, this youngster is very much in the developing stages so just a little unbalanced on the day but as expected for her age. She just needs time to develop which will come with maturity. She is up on the leg of good size with adequate bone, head is in balance to body with a calm gaze. Strong skull, high set ears that she used well, medium eye of good shape, neck slightly arched, lovely return of upper arm, forelegs straight would just prefer a little more width between them, chest needs to develop. Back firm and straight, sloping croup, moderate rear angulation with straight hocks, slightly close on the move coming and going but a nice side gait holding her topline in good coat.
Graduate Bitch (3/0)
1st, Wescomb, LUNAHAI DANCING IN THE DARK AT FIELDHOUSE, 20 Mths, see these are litter sisters which is no surprise as they have very similar attributes and of the same type. She just topped this class on her overall balance and movement holding her shape. Lovely bone and substance yet still showing elegance, head is of good breed type with a lovely kind expression. Arched skull of good width, lovely dark mask, very dark eye, muzzle is of equal length to skull, darkest of pigmentation. Neck is muscular, lovely straight front, good feet, firm topline, fairly tucked up, broad rump, sloping off at the croup, moderate bend of stifle, good width to second thigh. In lovely condition and good coat, straight strong hocks which showed her rear drive well, worked as one with her charge, handled well she just had the edge on the move.
2nd, Jephcott, LUNAHAI CRY ME A RIVER, 20 Mths, another nice bitch just a little different type to 1 in head though. Head is strong and in balance to body, ears set high hanging correctly, medium stop, medium oval shaped eyes, dark mask, strong neck flowing into clean withers. Balanced fore and after angles, elbows close fitting, long slanting upper thigh, moved with purpose and as one with her handler.
Post Graduate Bitch (2/0)
1st, Bailey’s, SKJAEGAADENS DANCE WITH ME TONIGHT JW (IMP NOR), 22 Mths, typical type to come from this kennel. Presented to perfection in good coat with a lovely outline, strong bone and substance with lovely strength to head which is balanced to her body. Ears set high that she used at all times, clean skull of good width, good stop, would prefer eyes just a little tighter and darker. Cheeks nicely developed, good length and depth of muzzle, very clean lip line, dark mask. Muscular neck of fair length flowing into a lovely front assembly and equally balanced in hindquarters, good width to chest, well boned straight forelegs, slightly sloping pasterns standing on great feet. Brisket well let down, back firm and straight, broad rump, flowed round the ring as one with her charge showing a balanced side gait. Just a tendency to carry tail higher than preferred on occasions, handled well to get the best out of her.
2nd, Watson, LUNAHAI LITTLE GIRL BLUE, 20 Mths, I see this is another litter sister of the graduate class girls. She seems to be taking a little more time to develop and not quite the balance on the day. A muscular yet elegant young lady being confident with an elongated dark head, beautiful dark eyes that gives a calm expression, pendant well feathered ears that’s set high. Good stop, broad nose, muzzle equal length to skull, lovely dark pigment, strong flowing neck into clean withers although just breaks behind the wither. Forechest is developing nicely, straight forelegs standing on tight feet, shoulders well laid back with good return of upper arm, topline needs to strengthen. Lovely thick second thigh standing on straight hocks, once again moves slightly close coming and going although showing a balanced side gait needs more time to mature.
Limit Bitch (2/0)
1st, Springel, LIONSCOURT ORENDA, 23 Mths, a young lady I judged earlier in the year but was very much in a growth spurt so was unbalanced on the day. Was good to get my hands back on her to appreciate the qualities that stood out now she has had time to develop. Shown in good coat with a lovely dark mask, I believe she still has more to come with maturity. She has good breed type, lovely size with plenty of bone and substance being muscular yet still being feminine without being overdone. Loved her pretty head which is elongated, such a calm confident expression. Muzzle to skull is equal which is slightly arched, high set ears between nice width of skull, medium eye which is so dark it draws you in, good underfill. Lovely clean lip line, very strong in neck, shoulder well laid back, moderate forechest that’s developing well. Elbows close fitting, deep in brisket, her back has now levelled out from previously judged showing strength and being firm, correct 9 to 10 ratio’s. Her rear angulation has also developed showing good strength to hindquarters and straight parallel hocks. She moved steady showing good side profile action holding her shape, pushed hard for top honours but just missed out to balance and maturity.
2nd, Herod, LEOSRUS POWERS THAT BE, 3 Yrs, sadly for me she was just too heavy on the day appearing stuffy and overloaded in some areas. Although can’t deny she flowed round the ring covering the ground with ease with lovely front reach just slightly close on the rear going away. Again good 9 to 10 ratio’s with balanced fore and after angles with her head being very dark which is also in balance to body. Skull is clean of good width, medium stop, medium eye with good underfill, nicely filled cheeks giving an elongated look, muzzle slightly arched of equal length to skull. Strong heavy neck, well developed chest, brisket well let down between forelegs that sit quite wide apart for good heart room. Short sturdy pasterns, nice feet, would prefer to see a tuck up, back firm and straight, lovely bend of stifle, hocks just need to strengthen a little, handled well moved with purpose in good coat.
Open Bitch (2/0)
1st, Weaver, CH SIMDEN MAIDA GIRL LIKE YOU, 22 Mths, absolutely loved this eye-catching bitch the minute she walked in the ring she just demands attention with super breed type along with bone and substance. She has a super feminine head with a calm confident expression, great size being strong yet elegant in super muscular hard condition. Wrinkle free skull of good width and slightly arched, ears high set lying close and used well, medium eye, good stop, muzzle of good length and depth, thick strong neck that flowed into clean withers and a lovely front construction. Equal return of upper arm, chest moderately developed, elbows tucked in tightly, deep in brisket, forelegs parallel sitting wide apart strong short pasterns, tight feet with short nails. Firm straight back with short strong loins, broad rump sloping at the croup, well feathered tail down to hocks, moderate rear angulation, nicely developed second thigh with strong straight hocks. Correct 9 to 10 ratio’s, by far the best mover of the day couldn’t help but smile as she flowed round the ring covering the ground with ease nothing over exaggerated and nothing going where it shouldn’t holding her shape. Handled to perfection to get the very best out of her just couldn’t be denied BB, pleased that my fellow dog judge agreed for her to go an easy deserving BIS. No surprise to be told later that day of her recent winning streak, all the best for a successful future will follow with interest.
2nd, Westwood’s, CH HILLHAVEN YOUR A HEARTBREAKER (IKC), 4 Yrs, another worthy champion being large, strong yet still being feminine. Plenty of bone and substance with head being in proportion to body, an alert keen expression, muzzle is equal to skull. Medium eye of good shape, neck is strong and slightly arched in full coat with beautiful mane and feathering throughout. Clean over the withers just has a tendency to dip behind the wither if not stretched out properly so affected her topline on occasions. Lovely front assembly, shoulders sloping back with equal return of upper arm, straight forelegs, strong short pasterns. Feet ok, lovely spring of ribs, strong hindquarters with moderate bend of stifle, hocks are parallel would just prefer them to be stood slightly further apart, moved well when settled.
