The Leonberger Club of GB Judges List Criteria 2020 onwards

NB:- These criteria to apply to all relevant Lists:-

1. All people to meet the criteria of a lower list before moving on to a higher list.
2. Everyone to provide a critique following judging (under normal circumstances) that demonstrates an understanding of the breed.
3. All judges for Championship shows and Breed Club Shows are asked to forward a copy of their critique to the Club.
4. Requirements all to apply except under exceptional circumstances.
5. The lists will be regularly reviewed and updated annually.

**NB** 4 months must elapse between judging appointments or at least 75 miles in distance from the previous appointment, unless it is outside the time scale. When invited to judge, all judges must also comply with the criteria of the host club.

A1 LIST

For persons who have previously been approved by the KC to award CCs in the breed and have completed their first appointment and have the support of the LCGB.

If you give CCs in a breed you must sign up for the JCF / get a licence and can apply for Level 4 in those breeds you are passed for.

A2 LIST

For persons who fulfil all the requirements of the A3 List and who have been assessed in accordance with KC requirements and accepted by the KC for inclusion on an A2 List and have the support of the LCGB. Will become Level 4 judges from 25/02/2020.

A3 List (Breed Specialists)

  • Judges who the LCGB would support to award CCs in the breed.
  • To have attended a Seminar given by a KC accredited trainer on KC Regulations & Judging.
  • To have attended at least one Breed Specific Seminar run in accordance with the relevant KC code of best practice and passed an assessment.
  • To have a minimum of 7 years judging experience in this breed and have the support of the LCGB.
  • To have judged a minimum of 70 dogs in this breed.
  • To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their 1st entry in the KC Stud Book (save in exceptional circumstances).

A3 List (Non Breed Specialists)

  • To have attended a Seminar given by a KC accredited trainer on KC Regulations & Judging procedure and passed the relevant exam.
  • To have attended at least one Breed specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant KC code of best practice and passed an assessment.
  • To have a minimum of 5 years judging experience in this breed and have the support of the LCGB.
  • To have judged a minimum of 70 dogs in this breed.
  • To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their 1st entry in the KC Stud Book (save in exceptional circumstances).

To attain JCF Level 3 Judge from 25/02/2020;

  • Undertake three mentoring sessions within the breed over at least 12 months.
  • Have one approved observation of judging at a breed club show, supported entry show or a championship show without CCs. (Min 7 dogs present currently)
  • Have completed the remaining 10 stewarding appointments (12 in total - a one time qualification)
  • Have bred and or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when the obtained their first entry in the KC Stud book – save for exceptional circumstances. (This is a one-time qualification)
  • Have achieved the relevant hands on experience for this breed’s stud book band. (currently 35)
  • Attend a Breed Competence Assessment for the specific breed to progress to Level 4.

B List (All Judges)

  • To have had an active interest in Leonbergers for a minimum of 5 years and have the support of the Club.
  • To have judged Leonbergers at least 3 times over 3 years.
  • To have undertaken 2 days of stewarding appointments.
  • Attended a Kennel Club Requirements of a Dog Show Judge seminar and passed the assessment.
  • Passed the Kennel Club Points of a Dog assessment.
  • Attended a Kennel Club Conformation and Movement seminar.
  • View ring stewarding seminar and take online quiz.
  • Complete critique writing seminar and take online quiz.
  • To have attended at least one Breed specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant KC code of best practice and passed an assessment.

JCF Level 2 as of 25/02/2020;

  • Take and pass Requirements of a Dog Show Judge examination.
  • Pass Points of a Dog assessment.
  • Attend a Breed Appreciation Day (BAD) and pass a Multiple Choice Examination (MCE).
  • View ring stewarding seminar and take online quiz.
  • Complete critique writing seminar and take online quiz.

Subsequent breeds:

  • Attend a Breed Appreciation Day (BAD) and pass a Multiple Choice Examination (MCE) for each breed.

Those candidates sitting the Multiple-choice Breed Standard Exam at a Breed Appreciation Day need to have met the amended Level 1 criteria, which are:

  • JCF Level 1 Judge as of Update 25/02/2020.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven interest in pedigree dogs.
  • Attend a Requirements of a Dog Show Judge seminar (but not mandatory to take and pass examination).
  • Attend a Conformation and Movement seminar.
  • Complete a minimum of 2 stewarding appointments.

C List (All Judges)

For aspirant judges who have shown an interest in the breed and have the support of the LCGB.

NOTE: All Judges must now meet the level 1 Criteria to be able to judge from January 2021.

Judges Lists are updated in the middle and at the end of each year so please send in by 1st May and 1st November or as and when you think an update is needed.
